Paul Gascoigne, the former England international, has been arrested for drugs offences.
Gascoigne, 43, was held overnight in police custody on suspicion of possessing a class A substance. Earlier in the week Gascoigne was warned that he could be jailed after admitting a charge of drink driving at Newcastle Magistrates Court.
"At shortly after 5.30pm on Thursday, police attended a property in North Tyneside," confirmed a spokesperson for Northumbria Police.
"A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A drug. "A second man, aged 43, was later arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs. "Both men are still in custody and inquiries are ongoing."
Gascoigne has suffered mental health problems in recent years and was already due back in court on November 3 for sentencing.
He was offered a return to football last month by the Garforth Town owner Simon Clifford, who wanted him to become manager of the Northern Premier League Division One North side. Gascoigne turned down the position, saying there would be too much focus on him off the pitch.
