Paul Gascoigne has turned down an offer to become manager of the non-league side Garforth Town.
Gascoigne, 43, was approached by Garforth owner Simon Clifford last month and it was widely reported earlier this month that he had accepted the position.
"It's a big challenge. It's whether the players want to join me in that challenge. I want to take the club forward and I want the players to develop," he told the News of The World last month.
Clifford said he was offering Gascoigne the job to help his recovery from well-publicised alcohol and depression problems.
Garforth play in the Evo-Stick Northern Premier League Division One North, and are renowned for their publicity stunts - including signing the former Brazil international Socrates.
Gascoigne was not present at last week's 3-0 win over Warrington Town, and has now turned down the position saying their would be too much focus on his off-the-pitch activities.
His only previous attempt at management came at Kettering Town, but he was sacked after just seven games - with the club's owner claiming Gascoigne's alcoholism was the reason.
