England booked their place in the final of Uefa Euro 2009, late into extra-time against the Netherlands in Tampere tonight.

A Jill Scott header saved The Lions from a penalty shoot out, with only four minutes to go, and assured them a place against either Germany or Norway, in Thursday's final, in Helsinki.

After a hard fought battle, against the defensive specialists, in which England's struggle to create chances were consistently stifled, Kelly Smith's goal in the 61st minute seemed to spark the game into life. The Dutch answered back three minutes later, with an equaliser from Marlous Pieete, but the game remained level until full-time and well into extra-time.

It was thought that a second penalty shoot out in as many games was on the cards for the Netherlands, until substitute Scott headed home to put the game beyond their opponents.
