Spain reclaim top spot, with Holland - who had played 25 matches without defeat prior to Sunday's World Cup final - moving to second. Brazil, who were top ahead of the tournament, drop to third.

Italy, world champions four years ago, have dropped out of the top 10 after their first round exit. They are now 11th. France, who were also eliminated in the group stages, have dropped 12 places to 21st.

With the World Cup completed since the last rakings there have been many big moves.

South Africa, who hosted the tournament, were the big winners of the African teams as they climbed 17 places to 66th despite going out in the first round.

Ghana  climb nine places to 23rd, but Cameroon's poor performance sees them drop  21 places to 40th. 

Egypt are the highest-ranked African team at ninth. They did not qualify for the World Cup, having been beaten by Algeria in a controversial play-off, but won the African Cup of Nations for a third straight time earlier this year.
