Blatter has met with Michel Platini, president of Uefa, to discuss ensuring a Europe-based tournament in 2018 with a move to another continent in 2022. Both men were recently in Russia.
"From what I've discussed with Platini is that only a European candidate will be evaluated for the 2018 World Cup," Blatter said on Mondya, speaking int he Spanish capital of Madrid.
"It's still not decided, but it's an idea to help facilitate the work of Fifa and its executive committee."
Should the proposal be adopted then England will be up against Russia as well as joint bids from Spain/Portugal and Belgium/Holland.
The 2022 tournament would then be selected from Australia, Japan, USA, South Korea, Indonesia and Qatar. |
