A Good Week For England Under 21's

A good week for England Under 21's as they made it three wins out of three in qualifying for the 2021 Euros with a 5-1 hammering of Austria.

Eddie Nketiah bagged a hat-trick at Stadium MK while Callum Hudson-Odoi scored the other two goals.

"We worked really hard throughout the camp and today we came out to prove a point and show what we can do," said Hudson-Odoi afterwards.

"We came out with the right mentality and I am happy with myself."

Manager Aidy Boothroyd was full of praise for the attitude of the Chelsea attacker on what could have been seen as a demotion to the more junior ranks after his taste of life with Gareth Southgate's senior side.

But the fluid nature of path between the two squads has been shown once again and Hudson-Odoi will have done his prospects of a recall to the top table no harm at all.

England's win comes as stats for the new season show an increase in playing time for English players aged 21 and under is at a 12-year high.

Three Lions trio Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori are all featuring regularly for Chelsea but boss Frank Lampard was keen to point out this week that they were not part of his first-team simply because a transfer embargo is in place at Stamford Bridge.

"That would be disservice to the competition I have in this squad," said the ex-England midfielder.
