The coach of LA Galaxy believes David Beckham has proved his US-based critics wrong by helping his side reach the final of the MLS Cup.
Beckham angered some Galaxy supporters by spending the first half of the season playing on loan for the Serie A side AC Milan and was booed when he returned to the States in July. He clashed with supporters during a friendly against the Italian team at the Home Depot Center.
For Bruce Arena, the Galaxy coach who formerly managed the US national team, Beckham has won over fans
"His performances quietened his detractors and I think, obviously at the Milan exhibition there were some frustrated fans ... but I never felt that David wouldn't be able to handle it," he said.
"David has been through an awful lot in his career, he has played with some of the biggest clubs in the world and been through a lot of adversity as a player.
"I think he was obviously well prepared to deal with any kind of issues that he was confronted with when he returned and lets face it he has done a wonderful job with that."
