A number of major European nations will look to secure World Cup qualifcation this week, joining England in December's draw for the 2026 jamboree in North America.

While Thomas Tuchel's already qualified team take on Serbia at Wembley on Thursday, France will host Ukraine on Thursday looking to avoid a slip-up after a 2-2 draw in Iceland in the last round of qualifiers.

Long-serving coach Didier Deschamps is set to step down after the World Cup and will be hoping for the smoothest possible passage to the tournament without a nervous last day in Azerbaijan.

Germany have failed to sparkle in the qualifiers to date but victory in Luxembourg will set up their home game against a Slovakia side who sit alongside them on nine points heading into this month.

A qualification place for European champions Spain is only a matter of time as they have a 100% record, fifteen goals for and none against from their four matches to date. Coach Luis de la Fuente, quoted on the UEFA website, has said: "We want more, much more."

Portugal are also on the brink, holding a five-point lead over Hungary in Group F while the Netherlands have a three-point advantage over their next opponents Poland.

A slow start has seemingly consigned Italy to the play-offs as a rampant Norway, led by Erling Haaland, have blitzed the opposition in Group I.
