Champions League Boost For England?

Daniel Sturridge's surprise return to the Liverpool side on Tuesday could also boost the Three Lions, the 29-year-old making his first start for the Reds since November 2017 and not looking out of place in a typically high-octane attacking display from the Anfield men.

Sturridge netted in a thrilling 3-2 victory against Paris St Germain and, against the odds, has seemingly revived a Liverpool career that appeared all but over when he was loaned out to West Bromwich Albion last season but without pulling up any trees at The Hawthorns.

Capped 26 times by England since his debut against Sweden in November 2011, Sturridge last featured for the national team in a turgid World Cup qualifier against Lithuania last October, coming on as a substitute for Marcus Rashford with 18 minutes remaining in Vilnius.

His age would normally count against him as Gareth Southgate looks to youth but England are not currently well stocked with forwards, he knows the international scene already and he remains relatively lightly-played in terms of his overall career appearances.
