Could Saints Winger Revive England Hopes?

Southampton winger Nathan Redmond continued his excellent run of form on Saturday afternoon as he netted the Saints goal in their 1-1 Premier League draw at Burnley.

The 24-year-old has seemingly blossomed under the management of Austrian Ralph Hasenhuttl, with five goals and two assists in 10 appearances since a change in the dugout at St Mary's saw Mark Hughes depart the South Coast club.

Redmond is well-known amongst the England set-up having played international football since representing the Three Lions at Under-16 level and was seemingly on a path towards senior stardom having shot to prominence as a youngster with Birmingham City.

He was named as England's Under-21 Player of the Year in 2016 having been in the UEFA team of tournament for the 2015 European Championships alongside players such as Bernardo Silva and Victor Lindelof.

Redmond was chosen in Gareth Southgate's first squad as permanent boss and made his only England senior appearance to date as a substitute in Germany in March 2017.

That put him in early contention for a World Cup spot but, along with many in a Southampton shirt he suffered a poor 2017/18 season, telling the official Saints website in December 2018 that 'last year was probably the biggest learning curve of my life.'

Will March 2019 see him back in an England squad for the first time in two years?
