England Under-21's suffered a last-gasp defeat by France on Tuesday evening in their opening European Championship group game.
Having taken the lead through Phil Foden's superb second-half goal, England Under-21's looked to have ridden both the sending-off of Hamza Choudhury and the concession of two penalties, both of which were squandered by the French.
But an 89th minute equaliser was followed by heartbreak as Aaron Wan-Bissaka put through his own net.
"The sending-off ultimately gave us our biggest problem," manager Aidy Boothroyd told Sky Sports. "As brave and battle-hardened as the team are, it was just too much to take.
"I've had a few last-minute wins in my time, and a few last-minute losses, but that was as tough as I've ever taken and I think the players will feel it more than most."
With only the group winners guaranteed a place in the semi-finals England must now take maximum points from their remaining two matches, starting against Romania on Friday.
