England are through to the final eight of the Women's World Cup after a comfortable, although controversial, victory against Cameroon on Sunday afternoon.

Phil Neville's side scored twice in the first-half, the opener from a free-kick inside the penalty area after a deemed backpass and the second on the stroke of half-time causing fury amongst the Cameroon players after VAR overturned an offside flag that had temporarily cut short England celebrations.

An excellent third goal late on ensured that the Three Lions had overcome a difficult hurdle against physical opponents, Neville calling Cameroon's attitude 'unacceptable' and booked a quarter-final against Norway.

The last eight will have been the minimum expected of the Lionesses, given the resources at their disposal, and their displays to date can be taken with a glass half-empty or half-full attitude.

Prior to Ellen White's goal to make it 2-0 there had been a number of unforced errors from England and Cameroon's tactics seemed to have had their desired effect of disrupting the Lionesses' flow.

But now, having seen them off in addiiton to Argentina in the group stages, England will be back on more familiar territory for the remainder of the tournament against opposition teams they know well.
