Inevitably there were contrasting emotions for the England stars taking part in Saturday's Champions League Final with Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson lifting the trophy in Madrid while Harry Kane, gambled on for a starting place by Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, struggled to make an impact in the showpiece event.

The duo, along with the likes of Dele Alli and Trent Alexander-Arnold, will now have to come together on international duty with just days to prepare for the Nations League semi-final against Holland on Thursday.

Manager Ronald Koeman has overseen a steady revival in Dutch fortunes since taking over and ahead of this week's England clash has been linked with a return to Barcelona, a club he graced as a player.

However media reports in Holland on Sunday suggest that the ex-Southampton and Everton boss will not be heading back to Camp Nou this summer.

England C, the representative side for players outside of the Football League, are back in action this coming week as they travel to face Estonia Under-23's.

Manager Paul Fairclough has named a 16-man squad and many of those taking part will be looking to put themselves in the shop window for a potential move up the footballing ladder.

Midfielder Tom White for instance has enjoyed a fine season for Gateshead in the National League but has seen his club thrown into off-field turmoil since the end of the campaign amid uncertainty about which division they will play in next year.

He told Sunday's Non-League Paper: "It will be a whole other experience.

"I've never played a football match abroad at all so it will be a completely different environment."
