Ronald Koeman believes following England's blueprint has helped Holland's football revival as the two nations prepare to meet in the Nations League Semi-Final on Thursday night.

Hosts Portugal await the winners at the weekend after Cristiano Ronaldo inspired their victory against Switzerland and the new tournament represents an opportunity for England and the Dutch to crown their recent good runs with a trophy.

"That was an example for the Dutch team, how they processed the squad, gave chances to young players," said Koeman of England's recent blueprint.

"It's not by chance they are fourth in the world rankings. That's why I spoke about Southgate doing a fantastic job. We were the lesser of the two teams when we played last time. But we're closer now, and have a better chance of winning [on Thursday]."

England's C team, representing the best of Non-League talent, suffered a harsh defeat against Estonia's Under-23's on Wednesday after two late goals for the hosts.

And with England's opening Women's World Cup match just days away it was confirmed on Wednesday that the Lionesses will be playing at Wembley on 9 November with a friendly against Germany scheduled for the national stadium.

"This is a great boost just before the World Cup," said manager Phil Neville.

"Wembley has been a brilliant home for the Women's FA Cup final in recent years and we know we will have a huge crowd behind us.

"England against Germany is always a great occasion and both teams will be up for it as always."
