England Head Out of Town for Kosovo Clash

The Euro 2020 qualifier between England and Kosovo will be played away from Wembley with the game scheduled for Tuesday 10 September.

With the Three Lions hosting Bulgaria on the preceding Saturday it makes sense for the Football Association to take the Kosovo fixture on the road, keeping the rarity value of Wembley matches and ensuring a large crowd there while also allowing supporters in a different part of the country to watch the first competitive game to be played away from Wembley since the Euro 2008 qualifiers.

The venue has yet to be announced for the first ever visit of Kosovo to English soil (with the visitors probably a little upset that they won’t be able to play at one of the game’s most famous stadiums) and the quality of grounds up and down the land mean there are plenty of candidates to host it.

Perhaps heading to the North-East would be a smart move for the FA with both St James’ Park and the Stadium of Light offering plenty of capacity and a demographic of supporter who can’t easily make it down to Wembley.
