Having last played for England in 2017, defender Chris Smalling believes his season-long loan at AS Roma could yet lead to him adding to his 31 international caps.

"I just try to focus on here and what comes, comes," he told BBC Sport this week, "but I would very much like to be part of (the Euros), for sure."

Midfielder Jordan Henderson has been ruled out of action for three weeks according to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, a hamstring injury meaning he may be a doubt for England's friendly double-header at the end of March.

Certain to miss those games is Marcus Rashford with the Manchester United man facing a race against time to play for his club again this season.

Speaking about his prospects of playing at Euro 2020, Old Trafford boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has said: "If he is not fit then he won't go."

Injuries to Rashford and Harry Kane increase the importance of Raheem Sterling to the Three Lions but the Manchester City man's future at club level has been the subject of speculation after the announcement of City's ban from European competition.

An interview with a Spanish newspaper has fuelled talk of a future move to Real Madrid for the 25-year-old.

One man whose international career is certianly over is Wayne Rooney but his successful return to English football continued on Friday evening when he scored a penalty for Derby County on his 500th league appearance.
