England Show Six Appeal To Make Knockout Stage

Engand defeated Panama 6-1 on Sunday afternoon to make it two wins from two at Russia 2018.

John Stones set the tone early on with a firm header from Kieran Trippier's corner as England continued to show a genuine threat from set-pieces and from then on they controlled the game against a genuine but limited Panama side whose naive defending assisted their opponents with two penalties which Harry Kane despatched clinically.

In between the spot-kicks Stones scored his second and Jesse Lingard curled in the goal of the game to send England into half-time with a barely believable five goal lead.

The action slowed down after the break, Kane's deflection allowing him to claim a hat-trick before Panama's consolation which provided a real highlight for their supporters although Gareth Southgate will be disappointed at the manner of the goal conceded.

But there can be no qualms about such a comprehensive England victory and a place in the knockout stages of the World Cup.

Who they face next will be decided on Thursday after the meeting with Belgium and the conclusion of the Group H matches as well.
