England Target Wembley Glory in 2020 & 2021

Having seen his England side bow out of the Women’s World Cup at the semi-final stage on Tuesday evening, beaten 2-1 by holders USA in Lyon, Phil Neville immediately set his sights on Euro 2021.

England will host the tournament, with the final set for Wembley, and the Lionesses head coach says his planning has already started as he looks to end a run of defeats at the final hurdle of major competitions.

Although England had an Ellen White goal ruled out by VAR and also missed their third penalty of the tournament, the USA were worthy winners of a contest they controlled for large parts.

Relentlessly upbeat when talking publicly about his players, Neville nonetheless has faced some questions about his team selection and tactics for the semi-final.

But with a place at the 2020 Olympics booked on behalf of Team GB and a positive tournament in terms of the image portrayed by team and manager, England probably met their expectations and ensured that the growth of the women’s game will continue, even if it remains slow progress in terms of those attending domestic fixtures.

Now both senior England sides are looking towards home glory with the closing stages of Euro 2020 hosted by the FA and the Women’s 2021 Euros being staged at grounds from Sheffield to Brighton before the Wembley final.

Tickets for England Women v Germany at Wembley in November are on sale now from the FA website, priced at just £1 for Under 16's.
