England now know their group stage opponents for the 2026 World Cup after the draw for the tournament was made in Washington DC on Friday.

Placed into Group L as one of the Pot 1 teams, England have been drawn alongside familiar foes Croatia, the side that beat them in the 2018 semi-final in Russia.

Memories of that tournament were also rekindled by the third team drawn into the group as England will face Panama, a side they defeated 6-1 in the group stages under Gareth Southgate.

The group is completed by Ghana, the two nations having met only once previously in a friendly at Wembley in 2011.

England's opening game, against Croatia, will take place on Wednesday 17 June in either Toronto, Canada or Dallas, USA. The other cities hosting matches in the group are New York/New Jersey, Boston and Philadelphia.

The confirmed venues will be known on Saturday afternoon when the logistics of getting to and from the cities involved, not to mention securing tickets, can begin in earnest for England supporters wishing to attend the tournament.
