England's October Diary

Last updated : 15 September 2018 By Three Lions

On the senior front October sees Gareth Southgate’s squad facing two tough Nations League away matches against Croatia and Spain.

The Spanish showed their quality at Wembley last weekend before letting loose to put six past Croatia and take a firm group of the three-team group which means the results between England and their World Cup conquerors are likely to decide who slips down into Group B of the Nations League for the 2020/21 edition.

Although results are not Southgate’s only focus as he builds towards Euro 2020 he will not want England to lose their position in the top group with the higher-profile matches it brings with it and he will be hoping that another few weeks of Premier League football will make his squad selection easier in October as more players get game time for their clubs.

Phil Neville can now plan for the 2019 Women’s World Cup after England secured their qualification in Wales recently and he will see the friendly games against Brazil and Australia as the start of that build-up.

The fixtures are scheduled for Saturday 6th at Notts County’s Meadow Lane and Tuesday 9th at Craven Cottage respectively.

Also looking to confirm their participation in a major tournament next year are England’s Under-21’s and they will be clear favourites to take three points from the home qualifier against Andorra which is set for Chesterfield FC’s Proact Stadium on Thursday 11th before heading north to face Scotland five days later.

Ticket details for the England Women and Under-21 matches are available on the FA website.

There are also fixtures for the Under-20 side, against Italy at AFC Fylde on Thursday 11th and the Under-17’s will take part in an Autumn tournament against Brazil, Russia and the USA with matches at Chester, Shrewsbury and AFC Telford.
