Ex-England Striker Calls Time On Career

Peter Crouch has announced his retirement from football at the age of 39.

The striker scored 22 goals for England between 2005 and 2010 which currently sees him level with Harry Kane in the list of all-time top scorers for the national team.

A purple patch in friendlies prior to the 2006 World Cup will be fondly remembered before what was probably his most important goal in an England shirt, the header from a David Beckham cross that finally broke the deadlock against Trinidad & Tobago during the finals themselves.

Another header, from another Beckham ball in, looked to have proved crucial as it levelled the scores in a frenetic Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia only for England to concede a third goal and cost Steve McClaren his job.

Crouch went to his second World Cup in 2010 but with limited playing time in South Africa and made only one further appearance in the Three Lions shirt.
