The Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster has been added to the England squad for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Belarus.

He replaces the West Ham keeper Robert Green in the squad. Green is suspended for the game having been sent off during Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Ukraine.

Foster is likely to be on the bench with the Portsmouth shotstopper David James starting in goal. Foster was left out of the initial squad after suffering bruised ribs in United’s 2-2 draw with Sunderland.

Foster, 26, has made two senior appearances for the Three Lions. Wednesday’s game is a dead rubber for Fabio Capello’s side as qualification for the finals in South Africa is already assured.
