Germany coach Joachim Low plans to experiment against an under-strength England at Wembley as he seeks to finalise his squad for a successful World Cup defence.
With many of his choices for next summer's tournament in Russia already made, Low wants to give other players the chance to secure their places.
RB Leipzig full-back Marcel Halstenberg will make his debut in the starting line-up just a year after making his first Bundesliga appearance.
Low's intention is to ensure he has two players for every position ahead of next year's tournament.
"It's still a trial period this year. With the tournament in mind I want to see not only those players who play regularly," he told a press conference.
"We want to play a good game, the result is always important, but I also know that I want to to experiment.
"2017 has already played a major role in the nomination decision and as we only have two international matches ahead of the World Cup we are looking particularly hard at the performances that players bring to their clubs.
"I would be lying if I say that there are no players who are not automatically placed on our team: Mats Hummels or Toni Kroos, of course, they are part of our fixed axis.
"The goal is to double all positions in the event that there are injuries."
Part of that experimentation involves the inclusion of Halstenberg.
"Marcel Halstenberg I plan for the starting XI because he plays well after a long period in Leipzig," added Low, who is without defender Jerome Boateng and could also leave out Kroos who has been suffering from illness.
"He is physically strong, good on the ball and if he is with us, then I want to see him already."
Despite facing opposition who have been crippled by the withdrawal of several senior players Low admits his side still face a challenge on Friday.
"Wembley has a special charisma and we are happy that we have such a backdrop," he said.
"It is an opponent who is absolutely on par, a team that has developed very well over the last two or three years.
"They are able to hit at high speed, they have fast players, the team is very well organised and attack early.
"It's one of the best counter-attacking teams right now and we have to be prepared for that.
"We cannot believe that we can dominate England with a lot of possession. We have to be well organised and be able to switch (from defence to attack) quickly ourselves."
Low travels to England without Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer, who is out until the new year with a fractured foot, but has no worries about his first-choice goalkeeper being ready for the World Cup.
"I've not been in contact with him in the last two weeks and I have not heard anything new," he said.
"What I know from a medical point of view does not make me sleep restlessly.
"I know that Manuel is on schedule and will have to start training again next year.
"I know from our doctors that it is absolutely feasible (timeframe) until the World Cup so I am relaxed."
