Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that left-back Kieran Gibbs faces around three months out of action due to a foot injury.
The England U21 international, 20, was injured late on in the 2-0 Champions League victory over Standard Liege in midweek and has been forced to go under the knife to repair the first metatarsal on his left foot.
Gibbs had been impressing as he stood in for French full-back Gael Clichy, who has not featured for the Gunners since the end of October.
"Kieran had surgery and the surgeon gave us a good report that he did not need any metal in his foot," said Wenger.
"The first metatarsal is broken, which is very rare. He will be out for at least three months."
