Wayne Rooney is coming back to English football in January after agreeing a deal with Derby County that will see him join the Rams as a player-coach.
The 33-year-old will return from a spell with Major League Soccer side DC United to aid Derby's promotion push while also taking the first steps on a path that may see him emulate fellow England cap centurions Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard and become a manager himself.
"It's great to see my ex-team-mates going into management," said Rooney.
"I have always had the ambition to do it.
"It's great they are getting an opportunity. We haven't seen that many ex-England players going down that path over the last few years."
England's record goalsorer, Rooney made a surprise return to the national side in November last year, the friendly against the USA being tied into a fundraiser for his charitable foundation.
