Paper Talk? Southgate Seen As Man United Option

England manager Gareth Southgate is being linked with the Old Trafford hotseat as Manchester United hero Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's future comes under scrutiny in the wake of a disappointing Premier League campaign.

Although he remains hugely popular with supporters thanks to his goalscoring feats for the club, recent defeats against Liverpool and Burnley have added to the pressure on the Norwegian.

With fans stepping up their discontent about many aspects of how the Red Devils are currently being run, speculation has turned to who the board may turn to if they dispense with Solksjaer at the end of the season.

Southgate, who heads into 2020 having taken charge of England on 41 occasions and will move past Fabio Capello's 43 games before the start of the European Championships, has a contract with the FA until the end of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and that has always been seen as the natural end point of his time in charge of the national team.

But his work in reviving the fortunes of the Three Lions may yet see him offered the opportunity of a big club job either in the short or long-term.
