Pearce wants manager job next year

Pearce has been taking a break from the game since he was axed as England's Under-21s coach following a woeful showing at last summer's European Championship.

It ended six years at the helm, which also incorporated taking charge of Team GB at the London Olympics, which in itself followed on from his time at Manchester City, which, for a short period, encompassed life as both a player and a coach.

Since exiting his international post, Pearce has been linked with a number of roles, including the current vacancy at Crystal Palace.

However, he feels it will be the start of next year before he actively starts looking for work.

Speaking on behalf of FA Cup sponsors Budweiser, Pearce said: "I am quite enjoying the break.

"That break will continue until January time and then it will be time for me to put myself forward for jobs and see where the next phase of my career takes me."

It might not be completely straightforward.

After all, Mike Phelan is still waiting for the right managerial vacancy to appear after leaving Manchester United following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.

Yet such is the turnover of bosses in the modern era, Pearce knows there will be plenty of openings.

"Vacancies come round quite quickly in my experience don't worry," he said.

Stuart Pearce was speaking at Basford United in Nottingham, one of eight non-league clubs to receive a £50,000 grant as part of the Budweiser Club Futures programme.

These eight clubs are now in with a chance of winning an additional £100,000 Super Grant, which will be decided in a vote on Facebook. Voting on the Budweiser UK and FA Cup Facebook pages opens in January 2014.
