The task facing England will now be outlined at the draw for the finals in Russia which takes place on 1 December at the Kremlin State Palace.

Gareth Southgate and the FA entourage will travel knowing that the Three Lions will be in Pot 2 for the draw, alongside 2010 winners Spain which means the two teams cannot meet each other in the group stage.

They will definitely, however, be taking one of the Pot 1 teams who are hosts Russia, Germany, Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, Belgium, Poland and France.
