Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has given his first response to speculation that he will be the next England manager after the departure of Fabio Capello.

"I was shocked and surprised," he said when asked about Capello's resignation. "I didn't expect that to happen. I knew he was going to leave in the summer but I didn't expect it to happen now."

When asked about his availability for the position he was adament that he wants to concentrate on his job at Spurs.

"Haven't thought about it, I've got a job to do," he added. "I've got a big game on Saturday with Tottenham so it is my focus. Tottenham have been fantastic to me - the Tottenham people, the fans last week at the Wigan game gave me an incredible reception, so it wouldn't be right to them to focus on anything else but Tottenham.

"The FA will make whatever decision they want to make and I'm sure it'll be the right decision for the country, but my focus is all on Tottenham."
