The Final Third For Southgate's England Hopefuls

The Premier League season is into its final third and England’s World Cup squad remains a realistic target for a number of players.

Player fortunes have waxed and waned throughout the 2017/18 season and there is still time to make an impression on national team manager Gareth Southgate.

His decision to go with youth for the friendlies against Germany and Brazil in November potentially changed the make-up of the squad travelling to Russia quite drastically and Southgate’s current thinking will be shown when he decides on the players to face Holland and Italy in November.

Will he continue along that path or will it be a more familiar-looking party that travels to Amsterdam before meeting the Italians at Wembley?

Since England’s last game much has changed, Jack Wilshere has returned to fitness and form with Arsenal, Adam Lallana is back from injury at Liverpool and the likes of Daniel Sturridge have made transfer window moves that look designed to keep them in Southgate’s thoughts.

The sheer number of potential candidates for the squad is shown by the betting market on who will make the cut.
