Under-21 Squad Shows England Strength

Aidy Boothroyd has named his England Under-21 squad for two upcoming matches against Poland and Germany as preparations step up for this summer's European Championships.

The current strength of the options available to Boothroyd is shown in the names on his squad list as Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi, wanted by some of Europe's top clubs, earns his first call-up and exciting talents such as Phil Foden of Manchester City, Leicester City's James Maddison and Aaron Wan-Bissaka of Crystal Palace are also included.

Certainly in attacking areas it is a squad that would not have looked out of place if it had been named by senior boss Gareth Southgate, showing the fluidity of the pathway between the two groups.

A strong performance at the European Championships is, of course, one of the summer priorities but with the potential for a number of Southgate's squad to be involved in the Champions League Final just ahead of the Nations League climax it could be that some of the current Under-21 squad will be heading for Portugal rather than Italy and San Marino later this year.
