Harvey Barnes faces knee surgery after sustaining an injury against Arsenal on Sunday, the Leicester City wideman potentially out for six weeks according to his club boss Brendan Rodgers.

It rules the 23-year-old, who has spoken recently of his hopes of claiming a place in the Euro 2020 squad after making a senior debut against Wales in October, out of England's opening matches of the year, the trio of World Cup qualifiers in March when the Three Lions take on San Marino, Albania and Poland.

There was better news for Gareth Southgate, elsewhere on Sunday, as Harry Kane netted in Tottenham's comfortable victory against Burnley at White Hart Lane.

On Saturday, both John Stones and Jesse Lingard were impressive in a hard-fought game between Premier League leaders Manchester City and West Ham United.

The World Cup 2018 duo have both enjoyed an impressive upturn in fortunes in recent months, Stones establishing himself as a first-choice at City and Lingard at the heart of West Ham's push for a Champions League place.
