Stuart Pearce has been offered a contract extension to stay on as England U21 coach for a further two years, and said he would love to manage the British team in next summer's Olympic Games.
Pearce, 48, was contracted until the completion of this summer's European Championship but will now see out the 2013 campaign as well.
Pearce had been in the frame to take on the Olympic team if the Football Association's bid to host the 2013 finals had been successful.
That would have seen the U21 team disbanded following this summer's finals, as there would be no need to go through qualifying for 2013.
Pearce would have been free to steer the Olympic team - which is U23, barring a handful of overage players - until the conclusion of the Games.
"If I was asked to take a team to the Olympics, I'd be delighted to accept," said Pearce.
