Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker has pulled out of the England U21 squad for Thursday night's European Championship qualifier against Azerbaijan.
Right-back Walker, who had been in the senior party for this month’s cancelled friendly with Holland, was sent back to his club with a hip problem and will play no part at Vicarage Road or in Monday’s friendly against Israel in Barnsley.
Chelsea midfielder Josh McEachran and Aston Villa defender Nathan Baker were also carrying knocks ahead of tomorrow’s game.
Head coach Stuart Pearce said: “We’ve just lost Kyle Walker. Two of them have got slight little niggles, Josh McEachran and Nathan Baker, so we’re going to sit on them until tomorrow (Thursday) before we make a final decision on those two.”
Pearce also confirmed new Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson would captain the side in the absence of Phil Jones, who was called into the senior squad for their double-header with Bulgaria and Wales.
Jones’ Manchester United team-mate Danny Welbeck, Arsenal’s Emmanuel Frimpong and Liverpool’s Martin Kelly have already pulled out through injury.
