The England U17 coach John Peacock praised his side's focus after they opened their European Championship qualifying campaign with a win over Sweden.

Two goals from Everton's Hallam Hope sandwiched a strike from Portsmouth's Sam Megri to secure a 3-0 win in Tiblisi.

It leaves them top of Group 3 after the opening games, and knowing victory over Georgia - who are hosting this four-team group, and defeated Poland 3-1 in their first game - on Wednesday would secure a place in the second stage of qualifying.

"This is probably the hardest group to get out of so I'm delighted to have won the first game," said Peacock.

"Sweden were relatively direct and caused us a few problems in the first 15-20 minutes, but that second goal really settled us down and we then started to take control of the game.

"Once we got the third goal it was just a matter of managing the game properly and making sure we didn't concede. The players have been very focused on what they are here to do and I've been very happy with them."

The current crop of U17 players started the season by winning the four-team Lincolnshire tournament - which also included Portugal, Australia and Turkey.
