Italy and France may pool their resources and launch a bid to co-host the 2016 European Championship.
The two countries have submitted bids to Uefa, who are also considering an approach from Turkey and a joint bid from Sweden and Norway. But the president of the Italian Football Federation, Giancarlo Abete , said on Monday that they may scrap their individual bid to partner with France.
"We don't have any problems with forming a joint bid. It would be with a neighboring country, and one that we're friendly with," he told RAI radio
"If it's not technically or politically possible, we'll play all our cards. We want to see if it's possible to find common points of interest.
"If it's not possible, we shouldn't be afraid to compete alone .It would be a great opportunity and extra motivation to improve our stadiums."
