Luka Modric has dismissed reports linking him with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur after claiming he is happy at White Hart Lane.

The Croatian, 23, finally scored his first goal for the club following his £16.5million summer arrival in Thursday's 2-2 Uefa Cup draw with Spartak Moscow.

Modric has taken time to settle in the Premier League having impressed in Euro 2008 for Croatia, and was reported to be on the shopping list of several Italian sides.

But the former Dinamo Zagreb player said he is not looking to leave England.

"In football you never know what might happen, but my plan is to stay here because I am very happy," he said.

"It's been a bad start but with Harry [Redknapp] coming in we are improving. I believe we have an extremely good team and that this club should be at the top.

"At first it wasn't easy to adapt in England because we weren't getting the results. I am well aware that expectations are quite high of me here and I know the club paid a lot of money, but I feel a lot stronger now and feel there is a lot more to come."
