England supporters will not be allowed to take vuvuzelas into Friday's game against Bulgaria, after Uefa ruled that the South African musical instruments would not be allowed into any stadium hosting a European Championship qualifier.
The vuvuzelas gained popularity during the World Cup finals in South Africa, but have been banned from many European stadiums by clubs - citing safety fears. Uefa have also decided the instruments have no place in a football stadium, though they say it is simply because they are annoying.
"The magic of football consists in the two-way exchange of emotions between the field and the stands, where the public can transmit a full range of feelings to the players," they said in a statement, which was highlighted by the Football Association.
"The continuous drone of vuvuzelas would completely change the atmosphere, drowning supporter emotions and detracting from the experience of the game.
