The England Women's U20 side face a difficult task to reach the knockout stages of the World Cup after losing their second group game.

The loss to Mexico leaves Mo Marley's side with just one point from two games, and knowing they can only win if they defeat Japan in the final group game and hope results go in their favour.

Mexico and Nigeria know that a draw in their game would see both sides through, whereas any losing team risks being overtaken by the Three Lionesses or Japan.

England started this match brightly, putting together some scintillating play in the opening stages. Had they managed to score in those stages it could have been very different for them.

Instead, Mexico grew in confidence and scored the only goal of the game after a great passing move midway through the second-half. Renae Cuellar finished smartly after a defence-splitting pass from Charlyn Corral.

England created chances to equalise, the best one falling to Jade Moore at close range but the Mexico keeper Cecilia Santiago instinctively put an arm up to turn the ball over.
