The England women's team kept on course to qualify for the Women's World Cup with a comfortable win over Malta in Ta'Qali on Thursday.

The win puts Hope Powell's team level on points with Spain and with a game in hand and, having beaten Spain 1-0 last month, makes England clear favourites to win the group to book their place in Germany.

The result was never in doubt, and it was no surprise when captain Faye White's header put the Three Lionesses ahead with just seven minutes on the clock.

Kelly Smith doubled the lead, with Fara Williams grabbing the first of two goals to make it 3-0.

Jess Clarke and debutant Ellen White got on the scoresheet before Williams rounded off the scoring.
