The chief executive of the World Cup organising committee hopes one of Cape Town’s professional clubs moves into the Green Point Stadium after next summer’s tournament.

Ajax Cape Town or Santos are two clubs who could move into the ground, which is being built for the tournament. It will hold 69,070 next June but be reduced to 56,000 afterwards.

“It would be very painful if a Cape Town team does not use Green Point Stadium after the World Cup,” said Jordaan.

“To ensure a lasting legacy and the commercial viability of the stadiums they will be used for both rugby and soccer.”

The stadium will host eight games during the World Cup, including one quarter-final and one semi-final.
