Dunga has been sacked as Brazil coach following their World Cup quarter-final defeat to Holland.

The Dutch came from a goal down to reach the last four on Friday afternoon, with the South Americans losing their discipline in the final stages and being reduced to 10 men when Felipe Melo was shown a straight red card for a stamp on Arjen Robben.

The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) confirmed on Sunday evening that Dunga and his coaching staff had been relieved of their duties.

"With the closing of the work cycle that started in August 2006 and ended with the elimination of Brazil from the World Cup in South Africa, the CBF announces the dismissal of the technical commission of the Brazilian team," read a statement.

Dunga, who was captain of the side that won the tournament in 1994, had been in charge of Brazil since 2006.

His replacement will have to prepare for the Copa America in 2011, but it is the 2014 World Cup finals - being hosted by Brazil - where he will have to focus most of his attention.
