Sven-Goran Eriksson, the Ivory Coast coach, felt his side had performed well in the World Cup despite being eliminated at the group stage.

Friday's 3-0 win over North Korea proved in vain as Portugal and Brazil played out a draw to finish first and second in Group G.

"It is a pity we have to leave because this team is getting better with every training session," said Eriksson.

"But that is life, we are out and we have to accept that. If you look at the three games we have played they should be very proud of themselves and the country should be proud of them.

"The team are leaving the World Cup with their heads held high."

Eriksson also confirmed that he would leave the Ivory Coast now they are out of the tournament, having only signed a temporary contract with the African nation.
