Loew’s contract runs out after the finals in South Africa and talks over an extension have faltered.
"We can still win it think the Germany team is one of the favourites together with several others, including Argentina. The top candidate for me, though, is Spain,” said Klinsmann, speaking to the German newspaper Bild, who led his homeland to third-place when they hosted the 2006 finals.
Klinsmann left the job days after those finals, with Loew stepping up from his role as assistant to replace him.Klinsmann said he hopes Loew agrees to stay on as Germany coach beyond the summer.
"I had turned down any negotiations before the World Cup, but this time the negotiations did take place, they just didn't go favourably," he said.
"But when the national team meets in May for tournament preparations, that no longer plays a role for the players or the coach.
"The way the tournament goes will be decisive and then the public, the DFB [German Football Association] bosses and the coach himself will get a chance to judge.I hope all of the contracts are extended after the World Cup." |
