Diego Maradona suggested he may resign as Argentina coach after his side were demolished by Germany in their World Cup quarter-final.

Maradona was widely criticised in his homeland before the finals as he struggled to secure qualification for the tournament, but they had impressed so far in South Africa.

Those successes - Nigeria, South Korea, Greece and Mexico were all brushed aside -saw opinion change, but the coach took the loss to Germany badly.

"I may leave. I'll have to think carefully about it, and talk with my family and the players. There are many issues here," he said.

"I'm as disappointed as all Argentines," he said. "To see my country lose a football match is very hard for someone who has worn the shirt."
