Roma coach Claudio Ranieri has revealed that Francesco Totti is open to the possibility of returning to the Italy squad for the World Cup.

Totti, 33, has not played for the Azzurri since their World Cup final success against France in 2006.

But after three years in the international wilderness, the experienced forward could now be in line for a recall.

"He had given up the Azzurri shirt because of physical problems, but it seems to me that he is willing to go back now," said  Ranieri.

"If he takes a step back by offering his availability and, at the same time [coach Marcello] Lippi takes a step back too and is prepared to welcome him back, the door could be re-opened."
