Sweden send World Cup SOS to Potter

Graham Potter has been tasked with reviving Sweden's chances of maing the World Cup after a disastrous qualification campaign to date saw Jon Dahl Tomasson sacked.

Often mentioned as a candidate for the England job in the past, Potter recently parted company with West Ham United following a poor start to the Premier League season but his stock remains high in Sweden after making his managerial name with Ostersund.

Four matches in qualifying to date have failed to see a Sweden victory and Tomasson's fate was sealed following a second defeat at the hands of Kosovo, despite the presence of big-money strikers Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak.

They can still make the play-offs, however, as four places are reserved for Nations League section winners and results elsewhere may deliver Sweden a second chance at making it to America.

"My job will be to create the conditions so that we as a team deliver at the highest level to take Sweden to the World Cup next summer," said Potter.
