Three wins out of three have given England a good platform, even if performances have been workmanlike at best, and they should be heading to Belgrade with a fourth victory in the bag after facing Andorra in their opening game of the 2025/26 season at Villa Park on Saturday 6 September.
Serbia, held to a goalless draw away to Albania in their opening game before easing past Andorra, have four points ahead of a trip to Latvia and then the visit of England to the Rajko Mitic Stadium, home of Red Star Belgrade and popularly known as Marakana.
England will have around 2,500 supporters for their first visit to Belgrade since 1987 and, in what has been an intimidating atmosphere at times for visiting teams, certainly in the Champions League against Red Star, those fans will be hoping for a similar result to that achieved by Bobby Robson's side to ensure qualification for Euro '88.
Against a very good Yugoslavia side, England blitzed their opponents with four goals inside the opening 25 minutes of the game, Peter Beardsley, John Barnes, Bryan Robson and Tony Adams on the scoresheet.
