England set for longer autumn international window

England's 2026 Nations League fixtures will take place over two, rather than three international windows after a change to the calendar.

The draw for the competition will take place on 12 February and England are back in League A after winning their League B group under Lee Carsley in the autumn of 2024.

Those six matches took place over three international windows as did England's final six World Cup qualifiers in the autumn of 2025.

From this year, however, there will be a longer window between 24 September and 6 October with the space to play four matches in that time and meaning that the scenario of a first international break when the domestic season has barely begun will no longer come up.

England's return to the top table means they could face some big-name opponents, helpful for the FA in generating interest should the Three Lions be coming into the autumn on the back of a disappointing World Cup.

Perform well in North America, however, and it will mean a warm welcome home for the team and their manager, whether that be Thomas Tuchel should he have extended his contract or a new man in charge.
