England shorts: Bowen's bullseye

Having ended 2024's international campaign with his first England goal, in the 5-0 romp against Ireland, Jarrod Bowen will be hopeful of adding more caps to his current tally of 14 when Thomas Tuchel names his first squad shortly.

The 28-year-old continues to be a consistent Premier League performer with West Ham, praised by former manager Julen Lopetegui in the Guardian this weekend and now thriving under Graham Potter.

That was shown again on Saturday when Bowen scored the only goal of the game at Arsenal, denting title hopes for the Gunners in the process as Myles Lewis-Skelly, tipped for an England call-up himself, was sent off.

Another England man to earn praise this weekend, despite another heavy defeat for his Southampton side, was goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, credited with keeping Brighton's score to a respectable level in the game at St. Mary's.
